As the third heat wave of the summer stretched into its second week club members gathered on the freshly watered and not quite so bumpy lawns for the club’s first ever golf croquet tournament organised by Steve. Eight contestants from both the AC and GC fraternities competed in a league format of seven 30-minute games, which proved to be quite an ordeal in the windless sunshine, but competitors were intermittently refreshed by the new iced water dispenser and the freshly baked scones and carrot cake kindly provided by Liz. The competition was intense and every player won and lost games. Excitingly, it all boiled down to the final game between Irene and Steve, which Irene won and so was awarded our sparkling new trophy. Graham came second on number of hoops scored and Steve third. The main prize of the day, however, was the new friendships between AC and GC players.
